Meena Bhasin

Meena Bhasin is a violist and pleasure activist known for her “alluring” and “powerful voice” (San Francisco Classical Voice). Her work weaves together artistic expression and feminine embodiment, harnessing the power of pleasure to reorder the world.

Meena is the Co-Artistic Director of Noe Music, a concert series in San Francisco that creates meaningful musical experiences for every stage of life. She is also the founder of a coaching practice that helps women tap into their fullest power and expression through music and movement.

Prior to moving to San Francisco, Meena co-founded Decoda — the affiliate ensemble of Carnegie Hall — where she led projects in Mexico, India, and Abu Dhabi, bringing music to great stages as well as to places where it is rarely heard, including hospitals, schools, shelters, and prisons. She was also invited to perform at the Obama White House highlighting Decoda’s work in criminal justice reform.

Meena is a member of the Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center in New York City. She relishes collaborations across genres and has toured the US as a soloist with legendary rock band Jethro Tull and performed Persian music as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic.

Meena grew up attending the Perlman Music Program where she was mentored by Itzhak Perlman, and at age 17 found her voice on the viola under the guidance of Martha Strongin Katz of the storied Cleveland Quartet. She was a founding participant of Ensemble Connect, the post-graduate leadership program of Carnegie Hall and the Juilliard School. She graduated as a Presser scholar from New England Conservatory and also holds a BA in international relations from Tufts University.

Meena lives with her husband and two children in San Francisco.
